Record Keeping and Required Forms

Record keeping is a fact of life, whether you're an organic or a conventional farmer. In organic farming, most of the record keeping has to do with maintaining an audit trail that can trace the ingredient in a processed product all the way back to the field where it was grown. You'll have to document the field a product was grown in, when it was harvested, where it was stored and when it was shipped.

In order to maintain this accurate audit trail, producers need to keep accurate farm and field maps, histories of their fields (including what was grown and what materials were applied), harvest records and more. Below you'll find basic advice on record keeping along with forms that will help you maintain these records. You'll also find forms on almost every certification agency web site.
